These photos are from Holy Friday night worship

Thank you for reading. I’m still getting used to blogging.

Last night’s worship started w a 4 pm service called vespers of unnailing. I didn’t go to that one but the title sounds like it is a service to honor Christ coming down from cross. At the 6 pm service there was a beautifully decorated structure with maybe 100 carnations on it to signify something about Christ now in the tomb and people could go to the structure and venerate it, bow, cross themselves, and kiss a special holy cloth.

All new to me, it is tradition to many. Young girls, about ages 3-6 had special white robes w flowers, 4 young boys in special vestments had candles to carry: so this was not like the somber Good Friday service as much as a feel that resurrection is coming. The youngest will probably mostly remember that they got to dress up. The church was almost full with many families with children of all ages. A few babies cried and that seemed natural.
